If you ran low on dough one day and the only way to balance your books was to fire one person on your staff, who would it be?
If the Little Rock School District (LRSD) was in this situation, they wouldn't be allowed to consider a teacher's performance when deciding who stays and who goes. How can this Movement get started if we can't fire the bad teachers? The LRSD-teacher "Collective Bargaining Agreement" (CBA) says ya can't fire the bad ones, when you're low on dough. Did you know that? Most people don't. This is kinda tough for me to hear after watching, over the last decade, 100's of folks get laid off where I work. 100's.
Anyone got a link to the CBA online? please please sent it. I can't imagine this is something they're real proud of, so it makes sense that it is tough to find.
Bad teachers need to be fired. Good teachers need to be severely appreciated. Are there really folks who disagree ? If you can convince me that teacher quality does not follow a "Normal" curve, my blog is open to comments, let's talk....and no snickering at my crappy art work.
There might be a ray of hope, though. A little birdie told me that this part of the CBA might be going away in the future. Folks need to pay attention and make sure this happens. Fire the bad ones.
